Pure Mustard (Red) Oil broken into cow’s ghani
Crushing mustard oil with a cow is a very old method. It is going to be lost in the evolution of time. An ox is ‘yoke’ on the shoulder of a cow. The yoke is actually a wooden bar, which is placed firmly on the cow’s shoulder. So there is no way to separate the cow from the shoulder. A brick or stone weighing approximately 35 kg is placed on the yoke. A black cloth is tied around the cow’s eyes, the cow goes round and round. And drops of oil fall. A local technique for making oil involves drilling a hole in the center of the tree trunk and inserting a wooden stick into it. And this hole is filled with soaked mustard seeds. Cows go round and round. Twist and grind the mustard seeds. There is a small hole at the bottom. A tube made of tin drips oil into the container. Oil drops 35 times in one minute. Its weight is only 50 grams. It takes about four and a half hours to produce two liters of mustard oil from six kg of mustard. This ancient method of oil pressing is cruel or difficult, but it is in great demand among all.
